Fall 2009 Collaborative Art Festival

5 02 2009

Thinking of taking one day during fall quarter and turning it into a Collaborative Art Festival. A day of making art with anyone and everyone that shows up. Printmaking, screen printing, painting, drawing, and every kind of art possible. Open to everyone. What do you think?

Monday Morning

3 02 2009

Ever spend a Monday morning at a car dealership waiting for your car to get fixed? Try it sometime for the sheer fun of it. I saw not one single new car buyer. I sat with lots of other people waiting for their cars to be repaired. All the time while the tv was blasting out total morning nonsense that morphed into too-good-to-be-true infomercials for just the most amazing skin care products this world has ever seen. Just short of a total out of body experience. They finally finished my car 3.5 hours later. The dealership gives you a complimentary car wash. It was the most expensive car wash I have ever had after paying for the repairs. Try it sometime just for kicks.

Freezing on the bluffs

14 01 2009

Winter has arrived in Elsah. Strong, cold, bitterly cold winters are shaking the studio today. Seeing a bald eagle fly by your window above the Mississippi River makes it all worth it. They fly by each morning around 10 am. Never fast enough to get any good shots of them soaring by but I will keep trying.

All for now as my fingers are freezing on the keyboard. Well they would be if I were outside.

Updates in Graphics @ Prin

16 12 2008

A couple of new updates in the graphics lab at Principia College. I have rebuilt both book presses and now they will hold together. They will be used a great deal winter quarter for Graphics II.

Also added new aluminum screens for screen printing. And a t-shirt press. It can be used to print up to a four color print on shirts or paper. Looking forward to using the new equipment this winter quarter.

Printmaking at Principia College – New

27 08 2008

The Department of Art and Art History has just added a printmaking press to the print lab at Principia College. Prints up to 17″ x 35″ can be pulled on this press. Students this fall will experiment with a variety of printmaking techniques including collographs, block prints, monoprints and screen printing. Here are a few of the experiments I have done in the last week as I learn how to use this press. The print lab is outfitted to do silk screen printing using various types of stencils including photographic and the new litho press for everything but etching at this time.

A Greece wrap up

11 08 2008

1. Learn the Greek alphabet – upper case and lower case.

2. Don’t go in June, July or August. It is hot and crowded. Be prepared to find and drink lots of water.

3. If you like cats you will love Greece. Cats everywhere along with lots of dogs.

4. The colors are every bit as bright and saturated as the photos would lead you to believe.

More later with more photos after they all get sorted out. Plus a bonus of a week in Turkey. What a contrast between the two countries.

NYC – Summer 2008

11 08 2008

After years and years of thinking about a trip to NYC finally made it this summer. And why did I not do this sooner? The city is everything that you hear about NYC and more. Never ran into Kramer but saw familiar sights. Made it to a Mets game and sat in the last row of what they call the picnic section (the bleachers) One of a few fans cheering for the Cards who got plastered by the Mets. Saw Times Square at night with hundreds, no thousands of tourists. More tourists than locals. A lot like traveling earlier in the summer to Athens and Istanbul but this time I could read all the signs!

Nebraska – by motorcycle

11 08 2008

Grearing up for a day of wet riding.

Grearing up for a day of wet riding.

Just returned from a short trip to the middle of Nebraska on the Goldwing. It was hot. It was cold and wet. It was beautiful. Miles and miles of roads where the only thing moving are the grasshoppers in the road and the corn fields all around. Visited the Ashfall Fossil Beds State Historical Park near Royal, Nebraska. Drove as far west as Valentine, Nebraska and passed lots of bikers headed to Sturgis!

Spent the night in Medina, Nebraska and visited the Harold Warp Pioneer Village.
